At OFC we understand that there are many types and styles of oak framed extension to choose from, with our own ranges including Oak Orangeries, Garden Rooms, Timber Conservatories and Sunrooms. No two Oakwrights extensions are the same, we create every one as a unique space, tailored for your home and to your specific needs.
The simplest way to understand the design of a conservatory, as opposed to the inset glazed roof lantern of an orangery, is that a timber conservatory will always have roof beams going right to the edge, leaving you with fully glazed walls. A beautiful timber conservatory creates a light and refreshing place, just right as an informal dining room or simply a quiet space to work, study or simply relax.
The simplest description of a modern orangery is a room with a glazed lantern set into the roof. The original oak orangeries of 17th century Italy were always, as they are now, designed as space in which to entertain. Originally conceived to lengthen the growing season of citrus plants, they would often house fountains and grottos, but were always designed as an additional feature space in which the homeowner could entertain and impress guests.
Throughout the centuries, certain rooms in homes have been designed as productive living areas, offering different benefits in different seasons. A well-designed timber sunroom will always provide a relaxing living area, but with a little more thought can be utilised for many other uses: from providing a great space to grow food plants to inspirational office space.
